A child-friendly room, or the Montessori method in practice.

A children’s room is a place where a toddler spends most of the day. It serves not only to sleep, but also as a safe space in which a child can engage in a spectrum of  activities throughout  the day. Some parent caregivers complain that their child, despite having their own space, can not play alone. It is worth supporting this natural activity by wisely arranging their surroundings and play environments in a multifunctional, sensorial, stimulating fashion.

Excessive Impressions

When arranging a toddler’s bedroom and play space, you should wisely select available ideas. The world of contemporary cartoons is colorful and attractive, but if we base the arrangement of space on it, we often have to change the leitmotifs. It is prudent and cheaper to prepare a room so that each additional detail fits the whole. The advantages of minimalism and functionality in interiors were noticed by professor Maria Montessori over 100 years ago. She was also the first recognized individual to conclude that a properly planned child’s room is a guarantee of good fun, appropriate quiet time and healthy sleep. Individual zones – games, learning, and rest areas should be equipped with several elements. Filling the space with the excess of objects introduces chaos and disintegration in the fun way.

A miniature version of reality

Maria Montessori was a keen observer of the children’s habits and customs. Over the years, she analyzed how they function and view the world. Her method is based on supporting the kids in their natural pursuit of independence. For this purpose, it is sufficient to have a safe, well-planned place where you can not only sleep sweetly, but also work freely and carry out your small experiments. Contrary to appearances, children do not need many items to play. Just a few good quality elements made of natural materials. It’s best if they present a real world that fascinates children. If we decide on toys – animals, they are made in colors that occur in nature. The minimalist, simple Montessori world does not include plastic, trashy rainbow horses and superheroes.

Support and accompany

Children’s room should encourage and support  their ongoing process of  learn and develop, which is why Montessori-based concepts, like My Mini Home, can certainly be called educational. It is difficult to discern where the fun becomes a science and when the piece of furniture begins to serve as a didactic aid. Easy access to each element encourages a toddler to explore further spaces and places. The child’s natural curiosity includes all the “adult” activities that he or she observes with parents. The daily bustle in the kitchen is particularly attractive. A toddler can participate in it using the safe, vertical position provided by our Kitchen Helper. Thanks to it’s specific elevation, it not only supports the child’s posture in the preparation of meals, but also helps in washing vegetables or arranging dishes on a plate.

By viewing a child through Maria Montessori’s philosophy and perspectives, we are encouraged to observe a child’s individual level of skill development, personal interests, strengths and needs. As a parent caregiver or guardian, we can support a child’s development to their full potential by discreetly facilitating them with tools that will encourage them to discover the world on his own.
